The Computer Design and Engineering Academy (CDE) at Foothill High School is designed for students who want to gain real-world experience while preparing for college and future careers.
What We Offer
CDE is a three-year, hands-on pathway that emphasizes architecture, design, and engineering through real-world application. Students don’t just learn concepts—they actively apply them through projects, field experiences, and industry exposure.
Students in the program will:

Design architectural projects using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software

Build models using 3D printing and fabrication tools

Participate in industry-based projects and collaborative design challenges
A major focus of the academy is learning beyond the classroom. Students will:

Attend field trips to architecture firms, construction sites, and engineering companies

Participate in college tours (CSU/UC campuses) to explore academic pathways
-
Gain access to internships and mentorships with industry professionals
-
Engage in work-based learning experiences that connect classroom skills to real careers

Have opportunities to earn industry-recognized professional certifications
Students may also enroll in articulated credit courses, earning both high school and college credit at no cost.

CDE is a college-preparatory program that fulfills CSU/UC A-G requirements, while also preparing students for direct entry into careers, internships, or technical training programs after graduation.
Program Expectations
Students in the CDE Academy are expected to demonstrate professionalism and responsibility as they prepare for real-world environments. Expectations include:

Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher

Follow all school rules and uphold positive behavior on campus and during field trips

Attend all classes regularly and be on time every day
-
Stay on track to complete A-G requirements

Participate in at least two CDE meetings per year
-
Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Because students represent the academy during field trips, internships, and industry interactions, maintaining high standards of behavior, attendance, and professionalism is essential.

There is no cost to participate in the CDE Academy. The program is funded by the State of California, which provides resources for:
